Spirited Away Yoga Retreat

Spirited Away Yoga Retreat

Uvita, Costa Rica

June 17-23, 2017Espiritu Salvaje Yoga Center

Nature:

  • the physical world and everything in it (such as plants, animals, mountains, oceans, stars, etc.) that is not made by people.
  • the natural forces that control what happens in the world
  • the way that a person or animal behaves
  • the character or personality of a person or animal

Join Nicole McLane for a weeklong retreat into Nature at La Cusinga Ecolodge, a boutique eco-resort in the coastal town of Uvita, Costa Rica. This jungle gem, tucked away in a private reserve of rainforest with its own hiking trails, private beaches and natural pools, is situated alongside Ballena Marine National Park. It is the most perfect setting to unplug and reset to the simplicity of life’s natural rhythm.

Begin each day with yoga practice to connect deeply with yourself and the lush natural world on an open air pavillion overlooking the turquoise sea. Follow practice with a dip in a natural wading pool with waterfalls just a short stroll away. Enjoy gourmet organic and sustainably sourced daily meals, including fruit from the trees right on the premises, locally grown produce and fresh fish caught on the local beach that day. Wind down each day with the glorious tropical sunset over the ocean and a gentle restorative evening yoga session.

This retreat can be total R&R or your own a la carte jungle adventure. Opt to spend each day simply lounging on Playa Arco, just a 15 minute hike away through La Cusinga’s trails, or indulge in some of the many other options to include birdwatching, snorkling, surfing, on-site spa services, waterfall tours, hiking, and other day trips that can be easily coordinated into your itinerary.

About La Cusinga Eco Lodge

“Hidden in the hilltops overlooking the pristine beaches of Costa Rica’s South Pacific, where the ocean crashes into the jungle sits La Cusinga Eco Lodge.”

This rainforest hotel provides guests with sweeping ocean views, sandy beaches, natural pools, and the chance to experience the burgeoning forests and astonishing wildlife of the country’s most famous ecosystem – Osa, Costa Rica. The hotel offers rustic cabins designed with sustainably-harvested wood and local materials to maximize comfort while minimizing impact on the environment, so as not to harm or change the delicate ecosystems that are working inside each corner in the jungle and the woods.

Bird watching Uvita de Osa Costa RicaIn addition to the hundreds of acres of privately-owned primary and secondary forest, the ecolodge borders the Ballena Marine National Park, developed to protect the humpback whales that frequent the coast, and one of only two nationally-protected marine zones in the whole country of Costa Rica. The hotel’s genuine commitment to sustainable practices along with first-hand experience in local and national conservation efforts enrich guests’ appreciation of these ecosystems and the importance of their continued preservation. This unique insight La Cusinga has enhances the exploration of the natural surroundings while the beautiful location offers the tranquility of fresh ocean breezes and breathtaking sunsets that make for the perfect tropical escape. La Cusinga is among the best ecolodges according to TripAdvisor, Rough Guides, and other global tourism leaders.

Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center

Yoga is about the perfect balance in life, we believe that Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center is the perfect place to find your balance.

The Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center  has an extraordinary view of Ballena (Whale) Bay and Uvita Point, surrounded by the Quebrada Grande Stream and rainforest of La Cusinga Lodge. Its isolation and freedom from modern artificial audio/visual distractions is a desired location, as well as being next to the Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, the first whale environment preservation national park of Costa Rica.

Furthermore, the building site has been considered by many to be a “power spot”, charged with magnetic energy and vital force. There is no question as to the site’s calling for sacredness. The goals for the Center were functional sustainability, environmental integrity, simplicity, technological and holistic appropriateness, beauty, and well-being. These goals were achieved by using building materials present in the farm (timber and rock), and by incorporating the four elements of air, water, earth, and fire to create a unique and inspirational atmosphere. The design of the Center adheres to the principles of sacred geometry and sacred architecture, an approach based on the teachings of psycho-physiologist Dan Winter and Drunvalo Melchizedek.

Nicole McLane:

Nicole began exploring meditation in 1999, tentatively at first, looking for relief from the anxiety brought on by her hectic urban life. She began reading books on Buddhism, some poetry by Thich Nat Hanh. It took some time, but she finally became able to sit down, grow quiet, and begin to study herself.

Yoga followed quite serendipitously just a few years later. As she stood on the mat in her very first class feeling the four points of each foot pressing down in Mountain Pose she felt new awe at her connection to the Earth. She discovered the power of her breath moving through her first Sun Salutations and found her meditation brought to life. More than just her posture fell into alignment.

In 2005, hoping to understand and intelligently cultivate her budding at-home practice, Nicole completed her 250-Hour Vinyasa Yoga Certification at Wake Up Yoga under the guidance of Corina Benner and Jill Manning. As her practice deepened, the call to teach unfolded naturally. Upon receiving her AYA Certification, she began sharing her experience of yoga in classes around the Philadelphia area.

In 2006, Nicole relocated from Philadelphia to Costa Rica seeking sunshine, adventure, and a freer way of life. Pacific Yoga was born in a little town called Manuel Antonio, on the South Pacific Coast, where she opened a small studio above the local TEFL school. Students from all over the world learning to teach English abroad, students learning Spanish through immersion in Latin culture, ex-pats, tourists and travelers, and even local Ticos united in Pacific Yoga’s tiny tropical nook to learn the practice of yoga, the culture of being present. Nicole’s approach to yoga practice: simple, steady, light and lively, coincided perfectly with the local pura vida vibe. This recipe, in regular doses, helped ease the transition from ‘the real world’ to the slow pace of paradise.

In 2009, Pacific Yoga found a new home further south, in Argentina, where Nicole continued teaching the fullness of simplicity from her home studio in Buenos Aires. Again, Pacific Yoga was a hub for travelers and locals alike, this time for those looking for a place to ground themselves amid the bustle of porteño life. It was here that Pacific Yoga became bi-lingual, challenged to offer instruction in both English and Nicole’s developing Spanish. It was here, too, that Nicole discovered that paradise and pura vida are states of being and not merely geographical points on a map.

In July 2010, Nicole returned home to Philadelphia, where she’s happily rerooted in her native soil. Pacific Yoga has its current address in Fishtown, where Nicole lives with her husband Mike and their son Jack. Her practice of simplicity and presence continues to steady her through all the movements and cycles of life. Her teaching shines light on the seemingly insignificant, the tiniest particles of life, to reveal the big picture of universal interconnection.

EARTH-CENTERED Yoga Retreat | Sybil Merriman | Apr 20-25, 2017

Sybil Merriman- Yoga  in Uvita Costa Rica

Sybil Merriman retreat will blend energetic yoga flows with astonishing wildlife. Active adventure and freshly prepared organic meals in a truly restorative setting. La Cusinga Lodge where you can see the aracari toucan also known as “La Cusinga”, playful capuchin white-faced monkeys and blue morpho butterflies.

Each day’s practices (morning and evening) will be infused with Earth element themes – Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. Stimulating a deeper connection to our planet and providing many paths for self-inquiry and growth.

In the morning, celebrate your inner power and move past limited definitions of yourself with a dynamic and physically-challenging class emphasizing mindfulness and coordination of breath with movement.  We will explore postures carefully chosen to bring you into a ‘maha’ or peak pose, followed by focused breathing and guided meditation to contain and integrate the energy you awaken.

Enjoy the Pura Vida Yoga

With Sybil’s style of teaching, you can expect variety: holding postures for extended times, slow movements, hands-on assists, invitation to spontaneous posture flow and contemplation of spiritual principles.  Morning practice will leave you feeling energized and centered, ready to greet the day’s adventures, or pampering and relaxation, with serenity and equanimity.  Vigorous morning practices will be balanced with gentle, nourishing yoga in the evening when we slow down. Rest the body and quiet the mind with restorative postures, yin yoga and Divine Sleep yoga nidra (guided deep relaxation).

After morning yoga flow, every day is an adventure of your choice! Take a horseback ride with the local cowboys at Rancho La Merced through a working ranch and pristine jungle, leading you to a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole. There will be plenty of opportunities to go on nature hikes through La Cusinga, zipline through the canopy at Hacienda Baru, surf the fun ocean breaks or simply relax, get a massage and soak in the views from your hammock on your private veranda.

We will honor Earth Day by participating in a tree planting celebration on the property and creating gorgeous malas made from the local seeds. In the evening live music will ignite your spirit and connect you to the vibrant Costa Rican lifestyle.
