La Cusinga Tropical Eco Lodge is located in Bahia Ballena de Osa near Uvita & Dominical. We strive to protect the local environment and promote our lodge by forming relationships with entities that share our vision and goals.

We at La Cusinga Lodge understand the importance of establishing relationships and partnerships with businesses and entities that share our visions, missions, and ideals. To this end, we strive to work with green agents and green companies. One of the alliances that has proven to be mutually beneficial over many years is the alliance we formed with Adventure Life, one of the pioneers in eco and adventure travel. Brian Morgan and his team graciously shared their extensive knowledge and ideas with us as we commenced doing business as an ecolodge.

We’ve worked very closely with a local partner, EcoSafari, who helped us ensure that we offer our clientele a wonderful, personal experience while minimizing our footprint on the environment. Over the years, we also had the good fortune of meeting Beatrice Blake, author of The New Key to Costa Rica (one of the first Costa Rica guides). Ms. Blake was also a pioneer of the “green ratings,” one of the first eco/green green rating systems in Costa Rica.

La Cusinga is located next to the first marine national park in Central America, Ballena Marine National Park, and we remain very active in protecting it. The Park was established by Oscar Aria Sanchez in 1989 with the efforts of my father, John Tresemer.

Our partnership with Cascadian Research, located in the USA has allowed us to offer educational programs for local guides and local fishermen. From learning the correct way to swim around coral to the learning best and safest ways to approach whales and dolphins, the programs offer information and instruction on many important issues.

In Santa Barbara, California, La Cusinga is one of the sponsors of the annual Santa Barbara Ocean Film Festival, which is hosted by The Ocean Channel

We are now working together with Horizontes, one of the first travel agents and most active participants in ecological tourism. Horizontes coordinates efforts with The Rainforest Alliance in “green certification” of lodges and operators in Costa Rica, and La Cusinga Lodge is proudly participating in a Sustainable Tourism Certification pilot program.

We also recently joined efforts with Ethical Escapes to promote our region and La Cusinga throughout Europe and the rest of the world. As people become more enlightened and seek travel destinations that allow them to make a positive impact, they are beginning to utilize travel agents who can help them achieve those goals. The Internet has put these choices right at their fingertips.

La Cusinga does not and will not pursue massive tourism markets and we have no plans for extensive expansion. We strive to create an environment where each person who visits receives personal treatment while allowing us to continue our self-sustaining operations and minimizing any impact and footprint on our environment, our community, our region, and the people of Costa Rica.

    Sincerely,
    Geinier Guzmán
