In 1996, when we began to build La Cusinga Lodge, we had our supply of high-quality wood that we could harvest without damaging our reserve. All the structures in the hotel were built using the woods originally planted by our family and the workers. Over the past three decades we have learned a great deal about sustaianbly harvesting wood from our lots, and we continuously plant new treelings for future use in the hotel and our furniture shop in accordance with our ministry-approved “Management Plan” (Plan de Manejo). We are proud of this business for its benign effects on the environment and its very positive impact on the local community, as it provides steady employment for a number of local families, some of whom have been with us since the beginning.
